All was created by him. There is a light within each that witnesses to this source/creator/un-manifested God. This light is God showing himself to us. Our futile attempts at relationship with him eventually will create feelings of isolation and distance, if we are honest with the emptiness inside. If we pretend to know him because of our works of identification, the balloon illusions that we’ve created in our minds may eventually be burst by life, if we‘re fortunate.
What I’m saying is that as long as we are the ones striving for the relationship, trying to understand God, define God, identify God externally, we can’t begin to see the simplicity that is set before us. Any striving on our part of obtaining anything from God is a diversion from what is. He’s already given us everything we need for life and godliness. This includes all happiness, love, joy, and peace. Add all the fruit while you're at it... patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Our striving creates smoke screens that make us think that sometimes we see him and other times we don’t. It all falls on us then. If we think we see him (and we do at times), we tend to think that it was caused by what we did right. When we don’t see him, obviously then, we did something wrong. When we think like this we are eating fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, which never truly satisfies.
God has made us one with him before the foundation of the world. The relationship already exists. We don’t possess the power to disconnect from Him except perceptually. We live perceptual lives because it seems safer to create illusions in our minds than it is to trust God. (If mistrust of him forms from our perceptions of him, maybe our ideas have betrayed us.) We’d rather be in control. It's more comfortable. I think that much of our thinking is due to our programming, whether it be cultural, social, or religious. I wouldn't advise anyone to automatically trust their heart or their mind. God doesn’t live in our mind (our thoughts) or our heart (our emotions). He lives in the spirit realm.
God is love and He has accepted us as we are. Yes, the choice is ours. We can believe that we are one with God or we can imagine ourselves separate. Which will we choose? Reality or illusion?
